The Vulpera

The latest playable race for the Horde are the vulpera. These diminutive fox people don’t have a history as a great empire or taking part in earth shattering events. They’ve mostly gone unnoticed by the great powers of Azeroth, until the Fourth War.

The vulpera are one of the species that share the island of Zandalar with the Zandalari trolls. For generations, vulpera have been nomads and wanderers, living in the sandy wastes of Voldun. Here, much of their history has been dominated by the presence of another race, the snake-like sethrak.

The sethrak kingdom split during a civil war, with the bulk of their people following the Faithless, the sethrak who turned their backs on their religions. Like many races, the sethrak had a loa, or wild god, that was their patron and creator. Sethraliss died saving the world by containing the C’Thraxxi warbringer Mythrax during the Troll and Aqir Wars 16,000 years ago, before the War of the Ancients sundered Azeroth. That battle, and her death, led to Voldun becoming the desert it is today, having once been a dense, lush jungle.

Those sethrak who still held the faith, the Faithful, held out in their own remaining settlement, while the Faithless became the dominant sethrak force in Voldun. These sethrak would enslave many of the vulpera, and would also use vulpera as a food source. Such was the life of the vulpera for generations, until the coming of the Horde.

The Horde would help the Zandalari and Faithful (who also sought out the Alliance for help as well) would eventually shatter the power of the Faithless, restoring Sethraliss to her former glory. The vulpera, having fought alongside the Horde and Faithful now found themselves free after centuries of enslavement and worse by the sethrak.

These diminutive, clever fox people then decided they would naturally join the Horde that had helped them so much. However, when the first vulperan caravan arrived in Orgrimmar, they found the Horde in a state of upheaval following Sylvanas’ abandonment of the Horde and the victory of the Alliance-basked rebel forces. Trying to adjust to the new council that would lead the Horde, Baine told the vulpera that now was not the best time to be admitting a new member, and that the vulpera, while welcome to live among the Horde, would have to wait for when the situation had stabilized.

Well, the vulpera are never ones to leave things alone, so they, with some help from Horde heroes, went about helping to fix a number of the issues plaguing the new council. For example, the magical arc-wine Nightborne needed to sate their thirst for magic had run into problems with production. The vulpera would solve this issue, among others. They then approached Baine again, and having now proved their worth, were welcomed into the Horde. The vulpera proved, while small and without the martial valor of orcs or tauren, they could be valuable members of the Horde, especially now that the Horde was trying to walk a different path than wanton war under an authoritarian warchief system.

Vulpera can play as warriors, death knights, hunters, shamans, rogues, monks, mages, priests, and warlocks.

Vulpera have racial with very strong flavor based on their lives as nomads in a harsh desert land.

1. Alpaca Saddlebags. Vulpera love their alpacas, who carry their supplies from campsite to campsite.  Vulpera have 8 more slots in their backpack.

2. Bag of Tricks. A vulpera can dig into his little satchel and either use an attack against an enemy, or use a vial to heal themselves. 1.5 minutes cooldown.

3. Rummage Your Bag. A vulpera can rummage around in his bag, and choose which of his tricks to activate.

4. Fire Resistance. Living in a burning hot desert has given vulpera a higher threshold for heat than other races. They take 1% less damage from Fire attacks.

5. Make Camp. A vulpera can set up camp just about anywhere, allowing them to get access to rested experience like an inn.

6. Return to Camp. Every hour, a vulpera can teleport himself back to his camp.

7. Nose for Trouble. Vulpera have a penchant for getting into and then out of trouble. They take less damage from the initial attack an enemy does.

And there you have the final playable race currently in World of Warcraft. The vulpera are fun, they’re cute, and they have unique racials that add flavor to them outside of direct combat uses. They’ve proven a popular choice for Horde players, with many players wanting a different sort of choice for character from the often harsh and brutal warriors of the Horde, a niche the blood elves and Nightborne also filled for the player base. So if you’re choosing a vulpera, may your travels take you only to good places!
